In early 2025, I moved to San Diego, California to aid in my parents’ immigration case with my wife, who was expecting our son at the time. This was a difficult time for us, as we missed our home in Hungary and faced many issues during our time there, just under one year. I decided to make a project of it, documenting what I saw, what it is like to live there after years away, and what my impressions are of the realities of the “American Dream” in photographs and writing.

Southern California has a strangeness to it in that it has many areas of natural beauty, contrasted with a suburban sprawl and homeless population, the variation of beautiful landscapes, corporate cities, and sprawling asphalt parking lots.

A complete version of this project with all the photographs and writing was put into print in my zine, Vadnyugat. If you are interested in the design process, check out my Vadnyugat project in my Design Portfolio Projects page.
